The frequent gathering of Primates is one of the main ways by which the 38 provinces of the Anglican Communion, representing over 70,000,000 Christians, express and build their unity.

The following annotated diary has been prepared to give some sense of the routine of the meeting, and to provide some context for the texts that were presented in the Plenary Gatherings. Texts will be available on the ACNS website as soon as transcriptions are made.

In this time of information overload it becomes increasingly difficult to translate statistics into reality. In many ways the issues of our day - debt, poverty, injustice and AIDS have become catchphrases that roll too easily off our tongues but are often extremely difficult to grasp. It has also become a survival tactic to tune out information that drives us out of our comfort zones.

I should like us: First: to reflect on Anglican experiences of church order and law. Second: to identify the role which the legal system of each Anglican church plays in the context of the global Anglican Communion - especially how collectively these systems point to an unwritten common law of the Anglican Communion.

Two weeks away from the family feels like a very long time - however lovely the scenery, however friendly the locals. Something absurd happens, someone says something odd or amusing; and I think, 'I must tell my wife, she'd love that.' I look at advertisements in a local paper and think, 'The children would enjoy that.'

Prior to the arrival of the Primates of the Anglican Communion, the Inter Anglican Finance Committee headed by the Most Revd Robin Eames, Primate of Ireland and the Standing Committees of the Primates and the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) will have met at Kanuga.

Plans for the 2001 meeting of the Primates of the Anglican Communion are in the final stages. The Archbishop of Canterbury envisions the annual meetings of the primates as a time of mutual support and spiritual refreshment for those called to lead the provinces of the Anglican Communion.
