C of E unveils logo for Queen Elizabeth's 90 birthday

The Church of England has unveiled the logo that it will use for its celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II’s 90 birthday, after running a design competition through church schools. Ten-year-old Lucas Salinger from Potten End C of E Primary School drew the winning design, which was selected from more than 1,000 entries.

Prince of Wales visits London church in celebration of community cohesion

A London church at the heart of one of Britain’s most diverse multicultural communities has this afternoon been visited by the Prince of Wales. Prince Charles made the lunchtime visit to St John’s Church, Southall, in the London Borough of Ealing, to meet members of the town’s faiths forum and to see a little of the community work of the church.

European Anglicans train to combat human-trafficking

The Diocese in Europe has held a day training conference to teach Anglicans how to combat human trafficking following a diocesan-wide survey which identified a pool of potential volunteers willing to take action against human trafficking if they received appropriate training and local service opportunities.

Prayers for Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday

Her Majesty The Queen has approved prayers written for the celebration of her 90th Birthday later this year. Two prayers (or Collects) have been published in traditional and modern forms for use in services marking the national celebrations in April and June; and two graces have been published for use as thanksgivings at the start of other celebrations.

"Action" call as 26 refugees drown off Greece

Ten children – five boys and five girls – are amongst 26 Kurdish refugees from Iraq who have been confirmed to have drowned off the coast of Samos Island in Greece yesterday, the Anglican mission agency United Society (formerly USPG) say.

England-Scotland ecumenical agreement published

A proposed ecumenical agreement between the Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland is not about “novel doctrinal statements or additional institutional structures, but about growing in communion and partnership in mission, so that people may be drawn to the good news of peace, the gospel of Jesus Christ,” the agreement's authors say.

C of E launches primary school savings club

The Church of England has launched a savings scheme aimed at helping primary school children to learn about saving while building up a small nest-egg. The LifeSavers programme has been piloted in schools across south-east London, Nottinghamshire and Bradford and is now being rolled out across the country.

Bishop of Newcastle takes seat in House of Lords

The Bishop of Newcastle, Christine Hardman, has this afternoon become the second female bishop in the Church of England to take her seat in the UK’s House of Lords – the upper house of the British Parliament. The ceremony took place the day after her neighbouring bishop secured a Lords' victory over the government on child poverty reporting.
