England: Prince of Wales Backs Millennium Village

The Prince of Wales is supporting a £120,000 million Christian centre for London. An ecumenical "Millennium Village" is planned for a nine-acre site next to Battersea Power Station in London, and is the idea of Holy Trinity Church, Brompton.

England: College of the Ascension links with Methodists

On 1 October two missionary traditions were brought together to form the United College of the Ascension in Selly Oak, Birmingham. The coming together of the Methodists and the Anglican United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (Anglican) in a United College has taken a number of years. Many Anglican leaders from around the world have trained at the College of the Ascension and recently the College has become pivotal for the new Centre for Anglican Communion Studies.

The Church of England Synod meeting in November unanimously endorsed the Jubilee 2000 campaign. This is a campaign to persuade the world's banks and governments to remit the unpayable debts of 40 of the world's poorest countries in recognition of the millennium.

Women representing 14 provinces of the Anglican Communion met at the Mothers' Union headquarters in London in November and decided to form a women's network for the world Church.

England: New Structure to govern Clergy discipline

The General Synod of the Church of England is to consider a new system for dealing with complaints against clergy. Under Authority - Report on Clergy Discipline is published today by the Working Party reviewing Clergy Discipline and the Working of the Ecclesiastical Courts and will be considered at the General Synod meeting later this month. (Synod meets week of 25th Nov).

A one-and-a-half-tonne mountain of shoes, representing lives and limbs lost by landmines, was built on the steps of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, in London in October.

England: Liverpool Priest Killed

The Revd Christopher Gray was stabbed to death near the entrance of his vicarage in Anfield, Liverpool, on 13 August. His attacker had been visiting Mr Gray for advice and counselling and had an appointment. The assailant fled the scene in a stolen car but was later arrested.

England: Church School Attack in Wolverhampton

The nursery class at St Luke's Church of England School in Wolverhampton was attacked by a man on Monday 8 July. Children in the area had been invited to attend a "teddy bears' picnic" party at the school.
