I am delighted and greatly encouraged that we have been able to continue the process leading on from the First Alexandria Declaration of January this year. That gathering brought together the leaders of the religious communities in the Holy Land.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, is hosting a meeting of religious leaders from the Holy Land. Delegates from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities of the Holy Land will be at Lambeth Palace in London today and tomorrow for a meeting of the Permanent Committee for the Implementation of the Alexandria Declaration.

When the delegates to the Anglican Consultative Council meeting held in Hong Kong, at the end of September, learned that the delegate from the Province of the Congo was slain on his way to the meeting, it was decided unanimously to dedicate the offering of the opening service to help his family.
