The Rt Revd Dr Manasseh Gahima, Bishop of Gahini, has been elected as the next Archbishop and Primate of Eglise Anglicane du Rwanda (EAR - the Anglican Church of Rwanda).

Announced on September 11, 2026, the Archbishop-elect’s installation is planned for October 25, when he will also take on the role of Bishop of Gasabo, as is the custom of the primate in the province.

About the Archbishop-elect

Bishop Manasseh has served as the second bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Gahini since 2019 and had previously been Assistant Bishop for the Diocese since 2017. He succeeds the Most Revd Laurant Mbanda, who has led the church since 2018.

According to the constitution of the EAR, a candidate must be between 55 and 60 years of age and have served a minimum of five years as a diocesan bishop. The House of Bishops elected Bishop Manasseh in a closed meeting.
