A leading member of the Anglican Church in Bahrain has called on local Christians to join in a week of prayers for peace in the island nation after recent outbreaks of violence.

The Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland has launched a dialogue programme for local churches to raise the moral issues of the arms trade with local Members of Parliament. The programme, entitled, Countering the Arms Trade - Churches Count the Cost - will run from Ash Wednesday (21 February) until Pentecost (26 May).

The meeting of the General Synod of the Church of England took place in February in London. The meeting was called to allow the Synod to consider in particular draft legislation designed to enable the introduction of new arrangements for funding clergy pensions.
