Anglican Priest murdered in Italy

I was deeply distressed to hear the news of Father Gregory's death. He was a faithful and committed priest with a transparent love for God and his people. Father Gregory had served the diocese well in Tangier and now for a tragically short time in Milan. He will be missed greatly both in All Saints, Milan and throughout the diocese. We offer prayers for his family, friends and colleagues, his congregation and for himself, thanking God for his ministry and friendship.

Former Primus dies

The Rt Revd Alastair Haggart, former Bishop of Edinburgh and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, died on Sunday 11th January aged 82. The former Primus was a well known figure in international Anglican meetings. He was elected Vice Chairman of ACC from 1981 and served until 1985. In 1988 he underwent a coronary by-pass operation but shortly afterwards took part in the 1988 Lambeth Conference of Bishops where he was Chaplain.

Relations between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church have taken a further step with the publication of a Response by the House of Bishops to the Pope's 1995 Encyclical on Christian unity Ut Unum Sint. In the Encyclical, the Pope invited 'church leaders and their theologians' to engage with him 'in a patient and fraternal dialogue' on the ministry of unity which belongs to the Bishop of Rome.

Archbishop of Canterbury calls for end to remands in prison for children

The Archbishop of Canterbury has joined with the charity The Children's Society to call on the British Government to honour a pledge made in 1991 to end the practice of remanding 15 and 16 year olds in prisons. The number of 15 and 16 years olds on remand in prison has risen by 200 per cent since 1991.
