The Archbishop of York has today ended his seven-day vigil for peace by calling for the international community to renew its efforts in working for a sustainable solution to conflict in the Middle East.

The Archbishop of York had his head shaved and anointed with oil during the Sunday morning act of worship at York Minster. The acts of preparation came as the Most Revd Dr John Sentamu began a seven day fast and prayer vigil for the Middle East.

Liverpool FC Community Department is to make a return visit to Belfast this summer to join a Church of Ireland youth initiative in the Upper Shankill area. Running from Thursday 17-Saturday 19 August, some 300 youngsters are expected to attend a three-day soccer school and life skills programme.

On Saturday July 29, Caritas Jerusalem's President HB Msgr. Michel Sabbah, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem accompanied by the Rt. Reverend Bishop Munib Younan, the head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and Bishop Riah Abu Al Assal, Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East with other religious leaders visited the Gaza Strip to show solidarity with the people living there.
